We will often get questions from designers and project coordinators (coming from clients) asking about if we can make various edits to a showcase website, so this is a list compiling common edits and their prices where applicable.
Keep in mind that although Showcase Plus clients are certainly allowed to make some small customizations to their layout, large amounts of customization should not be allowed. This is because we want to keep as much of a division as possible between Showcase Plus clients, and clients that purchase a Custom site to be built from scratch. If a Showcase Plus client is really pushing the envelope and asking for a lot, they may need to either dial it back, or purchase a Custom instead to meet their needs.
As a general rule, these edits ONLY apply to Showcase Plus clients, NOT Showcase Basic. Showcase Basic sites are meant to be built and launched as quickly as possible, which means that there’s not a lot of time built in for edits. So, keep that in mind when reading this list.
Edits that can be made to Showcase Basic OR Showcase Plus sites
Multiple logins for Online Banking
We have a built-in option for multiple options that uses a select dropdown.
They also have the option of just having us add multiple links, or we can put an HR below the OLB login and put another link / remote login form there without a dropdown.
OLB open on initial view
We have a built-in option for this. But be forewarned that the client that used it ended up eventually removing it, so we don’t have any functional examples of this setup at this time.
Include Routing # or NMLS ID # in footer
We have a built-in option for this with default placement being under the footer. If they would like to move that placement to elsewhere in the footer, that would be a Showcase Plus-only edit.
Add / remove captcha from a form
This is easily done–by default, all forms will NOT include captcha. This is due to the ADA errors that are thrown on automated scans (i.e. SortSite) for which we are still working to find a fix.
The exception is for the Newsletter form. There may be a design for that setup in the works, but by default this is usually the only form that does not get captcha even when the other ones do.
Header height changes to accommodate large logo
We should have script in place (in dev files) to allow for a taller logo, which will hopefully allow dense logos, or logos with a lot of text, etc., to be more legible. However, in the event that something breaks, this is one exception that we are willing to work with on either a Showcase Basic or Showcase Plus–the logo is important enough that it warrants the extra work.
Miscellaneous edits that are possible
- Change the social media icons to be icons instead of text (or vice-versa)
- Turn the parallax on the hero ad on or off
- Add or remove smartbanners
- Add or remove additional ATM networks to/from the key at the bottom of the ATM Locator template
Edits that can be made to Showcase Plus sites ONLY
3rd-Party Elements
As a general rule, most 3rd-party additions will require additional charges for us to implement. You can reach out to us in #org-content-dev for an exact quote. If possible, please attach any code that the client has provided, or links to the 3rd-party’s documentation if you know that they have some! It will really help us out with determining the cost.
MortgageBot
This could take anywhere from 2 - 5 hours depending on the amount of products and formatting that they would like done.
3rd-party forms
Generally we would do this via an iFrame provided by the 3rd party, which can be inserted into a content area. So, if the client is planning on doing their own forms & not using the ones we provide, just let us know and we can replace any forms with content areas in which they can place the iFrame.
If their form setup includes script, keep in mind that the CMS content areas will strip out any script placed within for security reasons. If this is the only way they can set up their forms, and the script cannot go somewhere generalized like the head or footer (meaning it cannot be placed by the client in the CMS via either of those options), we will need to create single-use templates with those pieces of script hard-coded into the template.
If they have a different form setup or their provider doesn’t offer an iFrame option, reach out and we can take a look to see what can be done.
Font family changes
Keep in mind that font edits can be tricky depending on the provider. We can usually do most font changes, but here is a prioritized list of font providers we’ve worked with in the past. TL;DR, we’d prefer Google Fonts, but there are options and we can usually work with it.
Font size changes
For example, increasing the size of one of the headings, or increasing the font size of the main navigation items. These changes can be done within reason, but we (and the client) will need to be vigilant in review about making sure that nothing breaks with those changes.
Form field for file attachment
Since custom forms are a Showcase Plus-only offering, those custom forms can also include file input fields. It comes with a cost of $250 per form. The client will need to provide a maximum number of files they would like attached, but keep in mind that the maximum total file size for uploaded items is 50MB, so we’ll want to keep the number of file uploads small if possible.
They can have multiple file upload fields per form at no extra cost.
If they have multiple FORMS that they want file upload fields on, it is an additional $250 per form.
Changing the height of images within ad spaces
This can be done within reason! Obviously we’d like them to stick to the defaut ad layouts as much as possible, but things like changes in height have been accomplished before. The main concern is making sure that spaces like the hero ad don’t become too short at any point when responding, because we don’t want the text that is on top of the image to fall off and break. This will most likely be a more designer-focused change, but touch base with us in dev if you’d like to confirm!
Multiple pages with a given component template
All component templates should be available (visible) to the client when creating a new page in the CMS. They can create multiple News pages, for example, so that they have main stories on one page and archived stories on another. If you come across a site that did purchase a component, but they are not seeing the associated template(s) in the CMS, reach out to us in dev and we can fix that for you.
Slider autoplay
It is easy enough for us to turn on or off autoplay for any slider. But keep in mind that if a slider has autoplay functionality, it must also have a play/pause button for ADA. For that, we can basically copy/paste the functionality from the hero ad’s default, but placement for the new play / pause button may need to be discussed in order for it to make sense with design and dev.
Alert Cookie
The timing of the alert cookie can be changed to be more or less than the default, which is 24 hours. We also have a functionality set up so that if the client edits the alert text, the alert will reappear, even if 24 hours haven’t yet passed for the user that clicked the close button.
Logo color changes when sticky header kicks in
This is something that has been done for Showcase Plus sites before - for example, if the client wants to change their header to be black all the time, but also wants to change their logo to white all the time to make sure it’s visible.
Miscellaneous edits that are possible
- Changing the color or opacity of the header, the “sticky” version of the header, or both
- Changing the color or opacity of the the solid-color overlay (for example, over the hero ad)
- Changing the “Login” button text to read “Online Banking” instead (with font size changes, etc. as necessary)
- Multiple header logos
- Add in a line of text like “Connect with us”, or “Follow us here” above the social media links / icons
- Slider transitions - We can change the default right/left slide transition on the hero ad to a fade, or vice-versa.
- Slider timing - We can increase or decrease the amount of time that any slider spends on a slide before changing to the next.
Edits that CANNOT be made to Showcase Plus sites
Custom Templates (not form)
In general, we will not allow for specialized / custom templates with Showcase Plus sites–they should only be approved for very specialized cases. This is because we don’t want to be blurring the line between Showcase Plus and Custom builds. In general, the Designer and PC for the project should try to work with the existing components and pages that the client has purchased (or can purchase) to come up with something like what they want. A whole new custom template should be a last-resort option.
As noted, however, if a client wants a custom form (something they can’t do with Form Builder), we can build it out for them within reason.
Separate menu of footer links
A client at one point requested to add a separate menu (or even just a list) of links for their terms of use, privacy policy, etc. below their footer logo. It was discussed and deemed unnecessary–the client should be able to use the footer menu column setup that they already have access to for this type of setup.
Multiple alerts
This has come up a few times and in general, this is viewed as out of scope for Showcase Plus sites. The main reason being that each alert needs a separate cookie to be set, a separate content area, and would need more input from design about what color(s) the alert / text /etc. would need to be, in order to be “different enough” from both the rest of the site, and the existing alert.
The second reason is that with Core Web Vitals changes being made, our Showcase (and Showcase Plus) sites now have the alert in a modal, by default. Having multiple pop-up modals can be a confusing and frustrating experience for the user, so we would strongly recommend against it even on Custom sites for that reason.
Changing the size of the logo when the sticky header kicks in
We would prefer that this stayed as a Custom site-only thing. The reason for that is because with the way that sticky headers are set up for showcase sites, it can cause breakage that changes the way the header needs to be built. The time investment that needs to be put into preventing that breakage is something that we’d rather not do for a Showcase Plus, only for Custom.
